Gain rare access to the interior of the Norwegian Royal Palace on an official guided tour, then stroll the ramparts of the medieval Akershus Fortress overlooking the fjord — two of Oslo's most regal and historically charged experiences in one elegant half-day.
What to expect
Inside the Palace, official guides lead you through the Council Chamber, the Bird Room, and the mirrored Banquet Hall — all still in active royal use. Stories of King Harald, Queen Sonja, and Norway's constitutional monarchy bring the ceremonial rooms to life. The walk to Akershus Fortress takes you along Karl Johans Gate, Oslo's grand boulevard, past the Storting (Parliament) and the National Theatre. At Akershus, medieval stone towers frame sweeping fjord panoramas — the same view that have guarded Oslo for 700 years.
Good to know
Palace tours run late June to mid-August only — check the exact season each year and pre-book on the Royal Court website well in advance as allocations sell out fast. Akershus Fortress is a 10-minute walk from the cruise pier at Revierkaia and makes a perfect warm-up while waiting for a later Palace tour slot. Smart-casual attire is appropriate for the Palace.
