Discover the improbably charming capital of the Falklands on a curated heritage walk: the colourful painted-iron houses, the whalebone arch, Christ Church Cathedral, and the Falkland Islands Museum — a compact world utterly unlike anywhere else.
What to expect
Stanley is one of those rare capitals that rewards slow, curious wandering. The whalebone arch on Ross Road — jawbones of two Blue Whales — frames a view of the harbour that has graced a thousand postcards. Christ Church Cathedral, the southernmost Anglican cathedral in the world, is a serene and beautiful stop. The Falkland Islands Museum, housed in a charming period building on Holdfast Road, contains a remarkably personal collection: portraits of pioneer settlers, Falklands-built vessels, and a moving 1982 gallery with original artefacts. The candy-coloured corrugated-iron homes, each with its own kitchen garden, make every street a photograph.
Good to know
The museum is a short walk from the tender landing point — ideal for passengers who prefer a gentle pace. Combine with a stop at the Global Odyssey or Capstan Gift Shop for authentic Falklands wool products. Allow 2–2.5 hours for museum plus heritage walk.
