Scale the 1898 red-brick lighthouse for panoramic Baltic views, then wander the flower-decked Alter Strom canal — fishermen's cottages, seafood shacks, and swaying trawlers — in the prettiest port village on the German Baltic coast.
What to expect
The lighthouse stands at the tip of the promenade where the Warnow meets the open Baltic — 31 metres of red brick with a tight spiral staircase rewarded by sweeping 360° views over sea and shoreline. Descending, you fold into the Alter Strom: a narrow canal lined with pastel fishing houses converted into oyster bars, smoked-fish stalls, and artisan boutiques. Afternoon light on the water here is extraordinary. The white-sand Strand Warnemünde beach stretches just beyond — bring a towel.
Good to know
The lighthouse is a 10-minute walk from the cruise terminal. It opens seasonally (typically 10:00–17:00); check opening times on arrival. This self-guided experience pairs perfectly with a morning before a shore excursion departs or an afternoon return.
