Dordrecht birthed Aelbert Cuyp and Albert Cuyp — immerse yourself in centuries of Dutch Golden Age masterworks at the Dordrechts Museum, then cross the courtyard to the Hof van Nederland, cradle of the Dutch Republic.
What to expect
The Dordrechts Museum occupies a beautifully restored 18th-century building and displays Cuyp's luminous cattle landscapes alongside Rembrandt-school portraits and contemporary Dutch work. A short walk brings you to Hof van Nederland, where the Union of Utrecht was signed in 1579 — the founding act of the Dutch Republic. Elegant period rooms and an engrossing permanent exhibition explain how a small merchant city changed the political map of the world. End with lunch at the museum café.
Good to know
Both museums are in the historic centre, under 10 min walk from the dock. The Day Ticket must be purchased at either venue or booked via the Dordrechts Museum website. Allow 3 hrs for both. Check seasonal opening times before visiting.
