A short ferry hop from the cruise pier delivers you to Cijin Island — a traffic-free spit of golden beaches, century-old temples, and Taiwan's finest freshly grilled seafood. Utterly removed from the mainland bustle.
What to expect
Step off the ferry into a car-free island village where the pace drops immediately. Rent a four-seat electric cart and trace the coastal path past the 19th-century lighthouse and coral-stone Tianhou Temple. The Cijin Seafood Street is a sensory feast — oyster omelettes, grilled tiger prawns, and sea urchin rice, all prepared in front of you. End the afternoon at the black volcanic sand beach with views of container ships gliding past the harbour mouth.
Good to know
Cijin Ferry departs from Gushan Ferry Pier, about 15 minutes by Kaohsiung MRT (Orange Line, Sizihwan Station) from the cruise terminal. Ferries run every 10–15 minutes, 06:00–24:00. All-aboard timing is very manageable given the short crossing. Pre-book nothing — the island rewards spontaneity.
