Ascend the UNESCO-listed volcanic tuff cone of Seongsan Ilchulbong — Jeju's crown jewel — to stand on the rim of a 100,000-year-old crater with panoramic views of the East China Sea. This is Jeju's single most iconic image, and seeing it in person is transformative.
What to expect
Your guide leads a manageable 30-minute ascent up 99-metre Seongsan through lush pathways to the vast green crater bowl at the summit — one of nature's great amphitheatres. At the base, watch haenyeo (female free-divers) surface with their catch in a centuries-old tradition unique to Jeju. The surrounding golden coastline and turquoise sea stretch to the horizon in every direction. Descent is equally scenic, with time to explore the charming village at the foot of the peak.
Good to know
Seongsan is on Jeju's east coast — approximately 1 hour from Jeju Port by vehicle. The climb takes ~30 min up and down; wear comfortable shoes. The East Course small-group tour departs from port/hotel, runs 8–9 hours, and returns well before typical all-aboard times — confirm your ship's schedule and book directly with Core Travel.
