Taller than Niagara by 30 metres, Montmorency Falls thunders into the St. Lawrence just outside Québec City. A suspension bridge crossing the very crest of the falls — and an optional via ferrata cliff route — makes this one of Canada's most visceral natural thrills.
What to expect
The falls are spectacular year-round, but in autumn the maple-canopied cliffs turn vermillion and gold, framing the cascade in extraordinary colour. The suspension bridge crosses directly above the 83-metre drop — the mist, the roar, the view down the gorge to the St. Lawrence is genuinely awe-inspiring. Thrill-seekers can tackle the via ferrata route, clipping along fixed iron rungs across the cliff face with full panoramic exposure. A cable car provides an elegant ascent if preferred.
Good to know
Only 20 minutes from the Québec City cruise terminal by taxi or rideshare. Book the via ferrata online in advance as time slots fill up. Allow 2.5–3 hours for a full experience. Falls are illuminated at night — spectacular if your ship stays late.
