Step ashore on one of the world's most pristine and remote UNESCO World Heritage sites — Anticosti Island — where Devonian fossil reefs line dramatic limestone canyons and white-tailed deer outnumber humans 25 to 1. A bucket-list encounter with raw, untouched Canada.
What to expect
Arrive by Zodiac to shore landings on Anticosti's rugged limestone coast, where Devonian-era fossils are literally underfoot. Hike into the forested interior alongside white-tailed deer and rare bird species with a resident naturalist narrating every discovery. Stand at the rim of the island's dramatic waterfalls — Vauréal Falls drops over 70 metres — in near-total wilderness silence. The day closes with a recounting of the island's eccentric history as a private chocolate-baron's fiefdom.
Good to know
Anticosti is only reachable by small expedition vessel or charter — no roads connect it to the mainland. Zodiac landings require sturdy, waterproof footwear. Book the full Eagle-Eye expedition well in advance (12 months+); departures are limited and sell out quickly.
