Ride through a UNESCO-protected forest where 70% of plant species exist nowhere else on Earth — a slow, immersive passage through ancient ferns, endemic palms, and the hovering jewel of the Juan Fernández firecrown hummingbird.
What to expect
Local gauchos lead small parties of 2–6 riders along forest trails above San Juan Bautista, ascending into the mist-shrouded endemic forest where the air is heavy with moisture and birdsong. The endemic Juan Fernández firecrown, found only here, darts between native flowers. Clearings open to sweeping views of the Pacific. The pace is gentle and entirely suited to riders of all levels.
Good to know
Arrange directly with island operators or via Discover Juan Fernandez well in advance — horse availability is very limited. Rides typically depart from the edge of the village; allow 2.5–3 hours including transfer. Closed shoes or boots required.
