Step ashore onto one of the Pacific's great seabird sanctuaries, where millions of Murphy's petrels, red-footed boobies, and frigatebirds nest in extraordinary density. A world-class ornithological encounter at one of the planet's last truly wild places.
What to expect
After a short Zodiac ride to the islet's coral rubble shore, your guide leads you along a careful path through nesting colonies so dense the birds barely move aside. Murphy's petrels — rare elsewhere — are present in their hundreds of thousands, their calls creating an otherworldly soundscape. Red-footed boobies perch in low scrub at eye level, entirely fearless of humans who almost never visit. The guide shares the island's fragile conservation story, making this a deeply meaningful as well as visually spectacular experience.
Good to know
Stay strictly on designated paths to protect nesting burrows underfoot. Long trousers and closed shoes are essential; nesting birds may peck at bare skin. The walk involves uneven coral rubble terrain — not suitable for guests with mobility limitations. Apply high-SPF sunscreen before departure as there is zero shade cover.
