Join a private naturalist-guided boat to seek out wild bottlenose and common dolphins in the Sea of Cortez — Jacques Cousteau's 'Aquarium of the World' — for an open-water swim that few travelers ever experience.
What to expect
Your naturalist scans the horizon from a fast inflatable while briefing guests on dolphin ecology and ethical swim protocols. When a pod surfaces, the boat repositions quietly and guests slip in with snorkel gear — often surrounded by 50 or more dolphins curious enough to circle. Common and bottlenose dolphins frequently bowride the panga afterward, and October–April also brings blue and fin whales to these waters. Hydrophones let you listen to their underwater chatter.
Good to know
Half-day (~4 hours); sightings are near-certain November–April but never 100% guaranteed — this is wild ocean, which is the point. Wetsuit tops provided. Combine with a Balandra afternoon for a full-day nature immersion. Book well in advance on cruise-ship port days.
