Paddle the glittering inner bays of Queen Charlotte Sound by sea kayak, then step ashore to walk a spectacular segment of the Queen Charlotte Track — two of the Sounds' greatest adventures woven into one extraordinary day.
What to expect
The day begins at Picton waterfront with a kayak briefing and gentle paddle through calm bays fringed with native bush, pausing to observe little blue penguins and resting fur seals up close. After a mid-morning landing, the group transitions to a curated section of the Queen Charlotte Track, climbing through silver beech and mānuka to a ridgeline lookout before descending to a remote jetty for water-taxi pickup. The combo perfectly balances exhilaration with contemplation. A packed gourmet lunch and all equipment are included.
Good to know
Moderate fitness required for both kayaking and the track walk (approx. 6–8 km). No prior kayaking experience needed. Groups are capped at 8 for an intimate experience. Confirm water-taxi return timing against your all-aboard. Sunscreen, swimwear under clothing, and a dry bag for valuables recommended.
