Join a local culinary expert after dusk along Nakasu or Tenjin's legendary open-air yatai stalls — Fukuoka's UNESCO-shortlisted street dining tradition — for the city's most iconic flavours: tonkotsu ramen, mentaiko, and yakitori cooked over binchōtan charcoal.
What to expect
The evening begins with a stroll along the Naka River lantern-lit bank before your guide seats your small group at a hand-picked yatai — barely eight seats per stall. You'll slurp Hakata's signature rich pork-bone broth ramen, sample house-made mentaiko (spiced pollock roe) on grilled rice balls, and toast with cold Kirin draft as the city hums around you. Subsequent stalls reveal yakitori, motsunabe (offal hot pot), and seasonal specials chosen by the chef that evening.
Good to know
Yatai open from approximately 18:00; coordinate with your ship's overnight or late all-aboard schedule. Private transfers from the port take 15–20 min. Alert your guide to any dietary restrictions at least 48 hours ahead. Book well in advance for weekend sailings.
