Walk the legendary 800-metre bronze-monster boulevard that inspired Studio Ghibli's aesthetic, then enter the immersive Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Hall — the life story of manga's great supernatural master told in vivid original art.
What to expect
Over 177 bronze yokai statues line the seafront promenade, each a character from Shigeru Mizuki's GeGeGe no Kitarō manga series. The Memorial Hall at the far end unfolds his extraordinary life — wartime loss, poverty, obsessive artistry — through original manuscripts, dioramas, and an enormous recreation of his studio. Souvenir shops, yokai-themed cafés and the adjacent Yokai Shrine create a full sensory world. The whole experience rewards 2–3 unhurried hours.
Good to know
The Memorial Hall is a 5-minute walk from the cruise pier — no transfer needed. Opens 09:30. Arrive early to beat tour-group volumes mid-morning. The free Yokai Train (JR Sakaiminato Line) runs decorated carriages between the port area and Yonago if you wish to extend the day.
