A privately conserved 243-hectare peninsula jutting into the Bay of Fundy, Irving Nature Park protects pristine coastal forest, tidal mudflats, and nesting seabird colonies — a rare wild sanctuary 10 minutes from a cruise pier.
What to expect
Seven kilometers of interconnected coastal trails wind through old-growth Acadian forest to dramatic cliff-top viewpoints over the Bay of Fundy. Your naturalist guide pauses at tidal pools to reveal the inverted ecosystem — organisms living upside down on rock ceilings to stay submerged at low tide — and scans the bay for harbour porpoise and bald eagles. The park's seabird nesting area shelters nesting osprey and double-crested cormorants; the guide brings high-quality binoculars for all guests. The pace is contemplative and the air is extraordinary.
Good to know
Irving Nature Park is approximately 10 minutes by taxi from the cruise pier (Lancaster Street entrance). Trails are well-maintained but uneven in places — wear walking shoes. The park is open year-round and free to enter; the guide fee covers expertise and transport from the pier. A 2.5–3 hour walk fits comfortably inside a standard port day.
