Tidal Bore Rafting on the Shubenacadie River: Pure Adrenaline

Ride the world's highest tides as they surge up the Shubenacadie River, creating a rare tidal bore — a standing wave you raft headlong into aboard a zodiac. One of Canada's most exhilarating natural phenomena.

What to expect

The Bay of Fundy delivers the world's highest tidal range — up to 16 metres — and twice daily it funnels inland up the Shubenacadie, reversing the river's flow in a churning tidal bore. Your zodiac pilot reads the surge like a surfer reads a break, launching you straight into standing waves while red river mud erupts in all directions. Between rides, the guide explains Mi'kmaq relationships with the river and the geology of the Fundy basin. You will be wet, muddy, and exhilarated — this is deliberately not a genteel experience.
