Board a purpose-built river cruise on the Adelaide River and watch wild saltwater crocodiles launch their full bodies from the water to snatch bait. This iconic Top End spectacle is one of Australia's most photographed wildlife moments.
What to expect
The purpose-built vessel drifts along the mangrove-lined Adelaide River, roughly 60 km from Darwin. Guides use suspended bait to coax enormous wild saltwater crocs — some over 4 metres — to leap clear of the water alongside the boat. Each crocodile has a name and history told by guides who know every animal individually. The surrounding wetlands teem with birdlife, including jabiru storks and sea eagles, making the cruise a superb wildlife experience beyond just the crocs.
