Scuba Diving in the Calanques Marine Reserve, Marseille

Descend into one of the Mediterranean's richest marine protected areas — a world of moray eels, octopus, grouper, and posidonia forests under the limestone cliffs of the Calanques. Dive the same waters that inspired Jacques Cousteau.

What to expect

Your PADI-certified guide meets you at the dive centre for a pre-dive briefing and kit check before you transfer by RIB to sites inside the marine reserve — spots like the walls of Tiboulen or the rocky plateaus of Riou Island. Beneath the surface, visibility frequently exceeds 20 metres, and the biodiversity of a protected ecosystem is immediately apparent: swaying posidonia meadows, schools of bream, and the occasional large grouper watching from a ledge. Surface with a new appreciation for what lies beneath those impossibly blue calanque waters. Introductory dives available for non-certified guests.

Allow 3–4 hours including briefing and boat transfer. Certified divers must bring log book and certification card. Introductory dives available for non-certified guests. Dive centres are a short taxi ride from Marseille cruise terminal. Advance booking essential — national park quotas limit daily diver numbers.
