Aeolian Islands: Private Boat Day to Vulcano & Lipari

Sail from Messina into the UNESCO-listed Aeolian archipelago aboard a private crewed vessel — volcanic black beaches, steaming mud baths, crystalline aquamarine waters and the medieval hilltop citadel of Lipari. Sicily's most spectacular seascape, entirely on your own timetable.

What to expect

Your skipper departs Messina harbour in the morning, crossing the sparkling Strait toward the archipelago's closest islands in approximately 90 minutes. At Vulcano, wallow in the legendary fanghi (natural sulphurous mud pools) before rinsing in the warm sea — a therapeutic ritual beloved since antiquity. Snorkel over volcanic sea beds teeming with colourful fish, then motor to Lipari's marina for a leisurely lunch and a stroll to the dramatic black-lava archaeological museum. The return sail at golden hour is simply magnificent.

Good to know

Confirm weather and sea conditions the evening before — the Strait of Messina can be choppy in wind. Bring a swimsuit, sunscreen and light layers. Depart by 08:00 to make the most of the day and return comfortably before all-aboard. Pre-book the charter at least 3–4 weeks ahead in summer.
