Kefalonia's spiritual heart, its celebrated wine terroir and a primeval stalactite cave — three defining island experiences woven into one deeply local, unhurried half-day.
What to expect
The morning begins at the golden-domed Monastery of Agios Gerasimos, patron saint of Kefalonia, where monks will show you the saint's silver reliquary and the subterranean chapel carved into the rock. A short drive into the Omala Valley brings you to the Robola Cooperative, a hillside winery responsible for Kefalonia's only PDO wine — you'll taste three expressions alongside local honey and walnuts with the winemaker on hand to answer questions. The finale is Drogarati Cave, a vast naturally air-conditioned chamber (17 °C year-round) whose stalactites and stalagmites have been forming for millennia. It's a perfectly sequenced arc from sacred to sensory to geological wonder.
Good to know
Arrange a licensed island guide and private transfer from Argostoli port (see ToursByLocals or local operators). Modest dress required at the monastery — covered shoulders and knees. The cave's constant 17 °C is a welcome relief in summer; bring a light layer. Allow 4–5 hours total.
