Plunge into Nagoya's most vibrant neighbourhood — a dazzling collision of a 700-year-old Buddhist temple, 1,200 covered-arcade shops, and the city's most adventurous street food — guided by a private local expert who knows every hidden stall.
What to expect
Your guide opens with incense and temple bells at Osu Kannon, one of Japan's three great Kannon temples, before plunging you into the covered shotengai arcades. Stalls burst with vintage kimono, handmade ceramics, retro electronics, and cosplay boutiques. Food stops are expertly chosen: a legendary miso-nikomi udon shop, a tebasaki stand that has been frying Nagoya-style wings for 50 years, and a kissaten (old-school coffee shop) for the city's iconic ogura cream toast. The energy is infectious, the flavours unforgettable.
Good to know
Osu is approximately 25–35 min from Nagoya Port by taxi or via Tsuruma subway line to Osu Kannon Station. Best experienced mid-morning when stalls are fully open. Wear comfortable shoes for cobblestones and arcade walking. Allow 3 hrs minimum.
