Roar out by RIB to the dramatic sea-stacks of Gjesværstappan Nature Reserve — one of Norway's largest seabird colonies — for an unforgettable close encounter with Atlantic Puffins, White-tailed Eagles, and thousands of nesting seabirds.
What to expect
You depart Gjesvær — a tiny coastal village reached by road from Honningsvåg — aboard a powerful, well-equipped RIB inflatable crewed by a local wildlife guide. The 30-minute crossing delivers you to the three towering sea-stacks of Gjesværstappan, a protected reserve hosting over 250,000 breeding pairs of seabirds including the unmistakable Atlantic Puffin. You circle the stacks at close range, watching birds dive, wheel, and nest on ledges just metres away; White-tailed Eagles frequently patrol overhead, scattering clouds of Kittiwakes. The return journey hugs the dramatic coastline, with time to absorb the raw beauty of the Norwegian Arctic shore.
Good to know
Season: late May to early August is peak for Puffins. The RIB ride is exhilarating but exposed — waterproof suits are provided, but add warm layers underneath. Journey time from Honningsvåg to Gjesvær is approx. 40 minutes by road; factor this into your port schedule.
