Wander freely through Norway's best-preserved 19th-century fishing village, a UNESCO World Heritage site where time has barely touched the ochre-and-white rorbu lining the glassy harbour.
What to expect
Nestled in a narrow fjord cleft flanked by sheer granite walls, Nusfjord is arrestingly beautiful at any hour. The resort's local guide leads you through the boathouse museum, the old general store still stocked with period goods, and along the quays where stockfish still hangs to dry on traditional wooden racks (hjell). A private tasting of Lofoten Arctic char or salt cod can be arranged with advance notice. The reflections of the red-painted cabins in the harbour are among the most photographed sights in all of Norway.
