Board a private yacht and seek out Atokos — an uninhabited Ionian islet so remote it rarely appears on tourist maps — then trace the rugged southern coastline of mythical Ithaca, Homer's island. Snorkel deserted coves and anchor for lunch in absolute seclusion.
What to expect
Departing from Kefalonia's Fiscardo marina, your skipper charts a course through deep Ionian blue toward Atokos, an uninhabited rock ringed with crystalline water and nesting seabirds. Snorkel gear is on board; the visibility here regularly exceeds 20 metres. After a leisurely swim stop, the yacht rounds toward southern Ithaca — dramatic hills, tiny fishing hamlets, and sea caves accessible only by boat. A Greek mezze spread is served at anchor; the silence is broken only by the lapping of water.
Good to know
Departs from Fiscardo, northern Kefalonia — factor in a short taxi or hire-car transfer from the main port. Journey to Atokos is approximately 1.5 hours each way; allow a full day (6–7 hours). Bring reef-safe sun cream; the open sea offers no shade. Pre-book at least one week ahead in peak season.
