Stand beside a fifth-generation maestro in a centuries-old Murano furnace and watch molten glass transform into sculpture before your eyes — then try it yourself. A private audience with living heritage that has made the Venetian lagoon legendary for a thousand years.
What to expect
You're collected from the Murano Faro vaporetto stop and escorted through a working-class neighbourhood to the furnace — a low brick building radiating intense heat even from the doorway. The maestro greets you personally and begins with a demonstration of the most demanding forms: a horse, a chandelier drop, a ribbed vase, all conjured from orange-glowing gobs of molten silica. You then step up to the blowpipe for a supervised attempt at a simple bead or vessel. The experience concludes with a private showroom viewing of archival and contemporary pieces, with no sales pressure. Allow 90 minutes total.
Good to know
Book by email or directly via the furnace website; private sessions require at least one week's advance notice. Murano is reached by the LN vaporetto line from Fondamente Nove in about 10 minutes. Wear closed-toe shoes and avoid loose clothing near the furnace. Pieces can be professionally packaged and shipped internationally.
