Soar above the Arctic capital on the Fjernsynsfjellet cable car for jaw-dropping 360° views of fjords, islands and the Lyngen Alps, then cross the iconic Tromsø Bridge to photograph the Arctic Cathedral — Norway's most striking modern church.
What to expect
The Fjellheisen gondola whisks you 421 metres above sea level in under four minutes, depositing you on a plateau where the entire Tromsø archipelago fans out below — a mosaic of dark water, white peaks and the colourful wooden city below. In winter, the landscape is monochromatic and otherworldly; in the Midnight Sun months, the light is liquid gold at every hour. After descending, a short drive or taxi across the famous bridge brings you to the Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen), whose soaring triangular glass mosaic facade is one of Norway's great architectural achievements. Step inside to see Europe's largest stained-glass window.
Good to know
Cable car runs daily; check current timetables at fjellheisen.no. Book cable car tickets online to avoid queues. Both sites are easily self-managed from the pier without a guide. Budget 3–4 hours for both. Cathedral is a 10-minute taxi from the pier independently.
