Combine Norway's most celebrated mountain railway — the Flåmsbana — with a high-speed private RIB through the Nærøyfjord, the world's narrowest UNESCO-listed fjord. Waterfalls, Viking farms, and sheer 1,400m rock faces seen from two utterly different vantage points.
What to expect
Board the famous Flåmsbana for a 20km ascent through 20 tunnels and past the thundering Kjosfossen waterfall, where a 'Huldra' water spirit performs on the rocks — a Norway rail icon. Back in Flåm village, pull on a thermal suit and board a six-person RIB that rockets into the Nærøyfjord. The guide slows at Bakka, a medieval stave-church hamlet accessible only by boat, before surging past the mirrored walls of Gudvangen. Return in time for a dockside smoked-salmon wrap at Ægir Bryggeri.
Good to know
Flåm is a deep-water port — no tender. Book the Flåm Railway at flaamsbana.no and RIB at visitflam.com separately to secure preferred times; trains fill 6–8 weeks out in summer. Allow 5–6 hrs total. Thermal suits and life jackets provided for the RIB.
