Step into the living world of the indigenous Sami people on the Arctic tundra: feed reindeer, hear ancient joik song, and share a fire-cooked meal in a traditional lavvu tent. This is Norway's most soul-stirring cultural encounter.
What to expect
A short transfer from port brings you to a Sami reindeer camp on the open tundra, where a family of herders welcomes you into their world. You'll feed and walk among the reindeer, listen to the hauntingly beautiful joik, and learn about traditional clothing, tools, and beliefs. The experience culminates in a lavvu tent around a crackling fire, where reindeer stew or smoked salmon is served with flatbread and cloudberry dessert. The pace is unhurried — there is time to ask questions and simply absorb the silence of the Arctic.
Good to know
Tours typically run 3–4 hours; confirm return time fits your ship's all-aboard. Dress in very warm layers — temperatures in the tundra are significantly colder than at the dock. Booking well in advance is strongly advised as Sami-hosted experiences have very limited capacity.
