Ascend to 1,500m above the Geirangerfjord on Nibbevegen — Norway's highest toll road — for a panoramic that stops the breath. Peer straight down at cruise ships the size of matchsticks in the UNESCO-listed fjord below.
What to expect
The switchback Nibbevegen road climbs through snowfields even in summer, with each hairpin revealing a more vertiginous view. At the top, the glass-and-steel Skywalk cantilevers out over the abyss, giving an unobstructed bird's-eye perspective of Geirangerfjord's turquoise ribbon. Snow-capped peaks ring the horizon in every direction. In clear weather, this is arguably the single finest viewpoint in all of Norway.
Good to know
Nibbevegen is typically open late May–October; check road status on the day. From Eidsdal ferry terminal, hire a private driver to Geiranger (≈20 min ferry + short drive) then up to Dalsnibba. Allow 4–5 hours total including ferry. All-aboard is typically early evening — depart by mid-afternoon to be safe.
