Trollstigen Mountain Pass: Norway's Most Dramatic Road Trip

Drive the legendary Trollstigen — 'Troll's Ladder' — an 858m serpentine road of 11 hairpins cascading beside a roaring waterfall, a UNESCO-recognised Norwegian Scenic Route and one of Europe's great drives.

What to expect

Departing Geiranger, your driver follows the national scenic route north, with the snowfields of Trolltindane forming a jagged skyline. At the Trollstigen summit, the award-winning cantilever viewing platform puts you directly above the 180m Stigfossen waterfall. Descending the 11 bends on the Rauma side reveals valley farmland and, on a clear day, a view stretching to the coast. The journey back via the Ørnevegen road adds a second iconic pass.

Good to know

Trollstigen is open late May–October only; confirm status before booking. Allow a full day (6–7 hours from Eidsdal). Pre-arrange a private driver from Geiranger — ask your concierge. All-aboard must be factored carefully; this is best for sailings with a late departure.
