Immerse yourself in the full story of the Geirangerfjord — its geology, the hardships of fjordside farm life, and its UNESCO World Heritage designation — at the award-winning Norwegian Fjord Centre in Geiranger village.
What to expect
The permanent exhibition 'The Fjord' uses dramatic multi-media presentations to tell the 10,000-year story of how glaciers carved this landscape and how humans clung to its cliffsides. A dedicated section recreates life on the abandoned fjord farms with original artefacts and personal accounts. Outside, the village of Geiranger is easily walkable — the 1891 Geiranger Church stands above the quay, and the surrounding waterfront buzzes with the gentle energy of Norway's most beloved fjord village.
Good to know
The Fjord Centre is steps from the Geiranger quay; from Eidsdal, take the Linge car ferry (30 min total). Allow 2–3 hours for the centre and village. Combine with a RIB boat tour or Flydalsjuvet drive for a full day. Centre is open daily May–October; no advance booking required for individual entry.
