Follow a dramatic coastal trail to the wild headland of Cap Ferré, where limestone sea caves, sunbathing grey seals, and unbroken panoramas of the Gulf of St. Lawrence reward every step. Quebec's north shore at its most primal.
What to expect
The trail from the trailhead near town winds through boreal forest before breaking onto exposed limestone cliffs high above the Gulf. The cave section — where the sea has sculpted chambers and arches into the rock face — is a highlight that astonishes even seasoned hikers. Further along, the headland's lower ledges host a resident grey seal colony visible at close range from the clifftop path. Views on a clear day extend 30 kilometres across the Gulf toward the outer Mingan islands. A guided option pairs the walk with expert commentary on the area's geology and Innu heritage.
