Follow a knowledgeable local guide through Qaqortoq's colourful streets to discover over 30 carvings etched directly into the town's natural rock faces — the Arctic world's only open-air rock-art project, blending Greenlandic myth, Inuit tradition, and contemporary sculpture.
What to expect
Beginning at the town square near the iconic Inuit woman fountain, your guide leads you through winding lanes where granite boulders have been transformed into canvases by Greenlandic and international artists since 1993. Each carving is a story: Norse mythology, Inuit legends, Arctic wildlife, and the layered identity of modern Greenland. The route also reveals the Church of Our Saviour, the sweeping Panoramic Stairs, and the best viewpoints over the fjord. The pace is unhurried, allowing time to photograph and absorb each work.
