Paddle into Swallows Cave — a cathedral-sized sea grotto glowing electric-blue — then dive through Mariners Cave's submerged tunnel entrance for one of the Pacific's most extraordinary experiences. Pure Polynesian magic.
What to expect
Your private vessel threads through the Vava'u island group, anchoring just outside the soaring limestone arch of Swallows Cave. Snorkel gear on, you kick through warm 28°C water past black-tip reef sharks and vivid coral formations while the cave walls amplify every drip and breath. The skipper then motors to Mariners Cave — legendary since early European explorers — where you take a breath and duck through the submerged entrance into a fog-filled hidden chamber as pressure changes create a haunting mist. Chilled coconuts and fresh fruit await on deck afterwards.
Good to know
Mariners Cave requires confident snorkelling — a 2–3 m underwater passage. Not suitable for non-swimmers or guests with respiratory issues. Book a private charter for full flexibility with timing vs. all-aboard. 30-minute boat ride from Neiafu harbour.
