Receive a formal sevusevu welcome into a traditional Fijian village deep in Kadavu's interior, participate in an authentic kava ceremony, and witness meke dance and weaving — an intimate encounter with a culture largely unchanged for centuries.
What to expect
Dress in a sulu (sarong) provided upon arrival and present your sevusevu (a gift of kava root, included) to the chief before being led to the communal bure. The kava ceremony unfolds at its own unhurried pace, with stories of Kadavu's oral history shared through your bilingual guide. Women of the village demonstrate traditional pandanus weaving and tapa cloth-making, offering hands-on participation. The visit concludes with a shared lovo (earth oven) lunch of root vegetables and fresh fish.
Good to know
Dress modestly — shoulders and knees covered are mandatory; wraparound sulus are provided. Photography is welcomed but always ask permission first. Lovo lunch is included. The experience runs approximately 3.5 hours and concludes well before all-aboard. Advance booking essential as the village requires prior notice.
