Venture inland to one of Sardinia's most atmospheric nuragic sacred wells, then taste your way through a family estate producing Vermentino di Gallura — one of Italy's finest white wines. Ancient mysticism meets modern Sardinian viticulture in one extraordinary half-day.
What to expect
The drive inland from Golfo Aranci passes cork-oak forests and granite outcrops typical of Gallura, arriving at the Pozzo Sacro Nuraghe Milis — a conical sacred well used for water rituals around 1000 BC. The guide explains the extraordinary acoustic and hydraulic engineering as you descend the stone steps to the still-water chamber below. The second stop is a small Vermentino estate where the owner leads a cellar tour and seated tasting of three wines paired with local honeys, breads, and cheeses. The return journey hugs the scenic hill road back to port.
Good to know
Approximately 4 hours total; confirm return time is at least 90 min before all-aboard. Wear closed shoes for the sacred well steps — they are ancient and uneven. This excursion runs best in spring and autumn when midday heat inland is manageable.
