Discover Ireland's seafaring soul inside a magnificent 1837 Mariners' Church, housing the optic from the Baily Lighthouse and artefacts spanning Viking trade routes to Transatlantic crossings — all in a strikingly beautiful space.
What to expect
The museum occupies a gloriously intact Victorian church just a 10-minute walk from the pier. The centrepiece is the Baily Lighthouse optic — a towering, prismatic Fresnel lens that once guided ships into Dublin Bay. Exhibits range from a Napoleonic longboat to artefacts from the ill-fated German submarine U-19. The curator's commentary on Ireland's relationship with the sea — emigration, trade, and rescue — is moving and memorable. A visit pairs beautifully with the coastal walk and James Joyce Tower.
