Wade into a jungle river to bathe rescued elephants alongside their mahouts — no riding, no performance, pure connection. Phuket's leading ethical sanctuary is among Southeast Asia's most moving wildlife encounters.
What to expect
A resort-style jungle camp in the hills above Phuket is home to a multi-generational herd of rescued working elephants. You feed them tropical fruit, learn their individual stories from their mahout, and follow the family down to the river for an exuberant mud-and-water bath. A traditional Thai lunch is served in the open-air pavilion overlooking the jungle. Departure is in small air-conditioned minivans with hotel or pier pick-up included.
Good to know
Half-day runs ~4 hrs including transfers. Morning sessions (8 am pick-up) are cooler and better for photography. Wear old clothes you don't mind muddying. Closed-toe shoes recommended for the river walk. Book directly on the sanctuary's website to ensure proceeds support elephant welfare, not third-party commission.
