Sail into the Maldivian sunset aboard a beautifully restored traditional dhoni while pods of spinner dolphins race and leap alongside. With chilled champagne in hand and the Indian Ocean aflame around you, this is pure magic on the water.
What to expect
You board the lovingly maintained wooden dhoni from the Malé harbour jetty as the afternoon light softens. The captain takes you into the open North Malé Atoll channel, where spinner dolphins are sighted on the vast majority of evenings as they transition to feeding grounds. The animals regularly surf the dhoni's bow wave within arm's reach. Champagne and canapés are served as the sky shifts through coral and violet hues. The one-hour-forty-five-minute cruise returns you dockside well before all-aboard.
Good to know
Best between November and April when seas are calmer and dolphin activity peaks — though year-round sightings are strong. Confirm departure time (typically 16:30–17:00) against your ship's all-aboard. Private charter guarantees your group has the deck entirely to yourselves. Book 1–2 weeks ahead; the dhoni accommodates up to 10 guests for larger private parties.
