Step into the living traditions of Ko Kood's east-coast fishing community at Ao Yai, where wooden stilted houses, hand-mended nets, and a beachside seafood market offer an authentic encounter with the island's soul that most visitors never find.
What to expect
A private longtail rounds the island's eastern cape to Ao Yai, a village unchanged in pace since the 19th century, where the morning catch is already spread on ice at the waterfront market. Your guide introduces you to fishermen mending their traps, walks you through a family-run shrimp-paste workshop, and then seats you at a waterfront table for a lunch of just-landed grilled crab and nam prik seafood dip. The return boat stops at the serene temple of Wat Ao Phrao, whose gilded spire rises from the palms like a mirage.
Good to know
Best started at 08:30 to catch the active morning market. Inform your guide of dietary restrictions when booking. The longtail journey each way is about 30–40 minutes — a scenic highlight in itself. Dress modestly for the temple visit.
