Paddle through ancient sea caves and dramatic volcanic rock formations along the Copper Coast — a UNESCO Global Geopark — on a small-group guided kayaking adventure. This is Ireland's wild Atlantic geology at its most spectacular, experienced from the water.
What to expect
Your RNLI-trained guide introduces you to sit-on-top sea kayaks — no experience necessary — before leading the group out along a coastline of copper-red cliffs, crashing swell, and black basalt sea arches. Ducking into caves where waves echo and light filters through cracks in the rock overhead is genuinely otherworldly. The Copper Coast's UNESCO status reflects its global geological significance — your guide interprets the volcanic history as you paddle. Seal colonies, guillemots, and occasional dolphins frequently join the journey.
Good to know
The Copper Coast is approximately 25–35km southwest of Waterford — hire a private car or taxi to Dunmore East or the Copper Coast launch point (approx. 30 minutes). Book directly with the operator well in advance, as small-group slots fill quickly on cruise port days. The 3-hour session requires comfortable timing against all-aboard — plan to depart early. All equipment is provided; wear clothes you don't mind getting wet.
