Just 15 minutes from Cobh, Fota Wildlife Park lets you walk freely among cheetahs, giraffes, ring-tailed lemurs and kangaroos in open, barrier-free habitats — one of Europe's most progressive and exhilarating wildlife parks, set on a stunning island estate.
What to expect
You arrive to find cheetahs sunning themselves mere metres away, ostrich wandering the open plains habitat and colonies of ring-tailed lemurs tumbling through the trees overhead. The park's breeding programmes for endangered species give every visit genuine conservation gravitas. The adjacent Fota House — a Regency mansion — and its arboretum are worth exploring if time allows. The parklands are beautifully landscaped and a genuine pleasure to stroll at leisure.
