Board historic vessels and explore Dunkirk's extraordinary port heritage inside a 19th-century tobacco warehouse — then step onto the quayside for a private captain-led tour of the museum's floating fleet.
What to expect
The museum occupies a magnificent late-19th-century tobacco warehouse on the old quays, its vast interior filled with figureheads, navigation instruments, ship models, and the atmospheric detritus of a once-great trading port. A bilingual curator leads your private group through the story of Dunkirk as Europe's third-largest port, from the corsairs of Jean Bart to the container age. The unmissable finale is boarding the Sandettié lightship — moored alongside — a working vessel that once warned mariners of the treacherous Channel sandbanks. The quayside views back across the harbour to your cruise ship are superb.
