Cross the Mekong on one of the world's most extraordinary seasonal bamboo bridges — rebuilt by hand each dry season — then pedal through the lush garden island of Koh Paen past stilted villages, tobacco fields, and riverside hammocks.
What to expect
On foot (or by bicycle) you cross the famous 800-metre bamboo bridge, which locals dismantle and rebuild each year before and after monsoon season. Once on the island, your guide leads you through verdant vegetable gardens, banana groves, and small weaving workshops. You're invited into a local family home for freshly cut coconut before cycling back across the bridge as the afternoon light turns the Mekong gold. The island is blissfully free of tourist infrastructure.
Good to know
The bamboo bridge is only in place during the dry season (roughly November–May); check your cruise date. The island is a 10-minute walk from the cruise pier. Flat, easy cycling on compacted earth tracks — suitable for all fitness levels. Bring sunscreen and a hat.
