Board France's most decorated nuclear submarine, Le Redoutable, and stand in the very terminal where Titanic's passengers stepped ashore — all within a 10-minute walk of the cruise pier, making it the port's most theatrical in-depth experience.
What to expect
The visit begins in the grand Gare Maritime Transatlantique, a stunning 1930s hall that once welcomed liners from New York, now housing an emotive Titanic permanent exhibition with recovered artefacts and personal stories. From there you descend into Le Redoutable — France's first ballistic missile submarine — touring the torpedo room, the officers' mess, the reactor compartment mock-up, and the cramped crew quarters across seven decks. The adjacent deep-sea aquarium features a 360° tank and bioluminescent species. Allow three to four hours to do justice to all three attractions.
Good to know
Open daily from 09:30; last entry 16:00 in shoulder season. Book tickets online in advance at citedelamer.com to avoid queues. The submarine involves ladders and narrow hatches — not suitable for guests with severe mobility limitations. Only 10 minutes on foot from the cruise terminal via the port promenade.
