Discover the wild, wind-sculpted headland of Cap de la Hague — Normandy's rugged answer to Land's End — where dramatic granite cliffs, lighthouse-crowned coves, and empty moorland walk you back to a France untouched by tourism.
What to expect
Departing Cherbourg port, the drive west along the Cotentin coast reveals a landscape of heathland and granite sea stacks quite unlike the rest of Normandy. The first stop is the Nez de Jobourg — one of the highest sea cliffs in Western Europe — with a short walk to the cliff edge for vertiginous views over the Channel Islands on a clear day. Your guide then takes you to the charming hamlet of Goury with its circular lighthouse at the tip of the cape, a working lifeboat station, and a local café famous for its fresh langoustines. The return route passes through the village of Omonville-la-Petite where poet Jacques Prévert is buried in a walled garden cemetery.
Good to know
Half-day tour runs approximately 4–5 hours, making it ideal for port days with a late all-aboard. Wear sturdy walking shoes and a windproof layer — the cape lives up to its reputation. This tour pairs beautifully with an afternoon at Cité de la Mer. Book the private guide via ToursByLocals at least one week in advance.
