Wander the ancient fishermen's barrio of Cimavilla with a private local historian — Roman ruins, Jovellanos' birthplace, the Collegiate Church, and the cliff-edge Chillida sculpture, all at a leisurely, story-rich pace.
What to expect
The tour begins at the Campo Valdés Roman Baths — a remarkably preserved 1st-century thermae complex right on the beach — before winding uphill into Cimavilla's cobblestoned web of lanes. Your guide pauses at the Revillagigedo Palace and the Collegiate Church of San Juan Bautista, unpacking six centuries of Asturian noble history. The Museo Casa Natal de Jovellanos — birthplace of Spain's great Enlightenment reformer — reveals a side of Gijón few visitors reach. The walk culminates at the clifftop with Chillida's massive 'Elogio del Horizonte', framing an infinite Atlantic horizon.
Good to know
Roman Baths entry is EUR 3 per person (book at the door). Jovellanos Museum entry is low-cost and can be added on. The walk is mostly flat with one modest climb to the headland. Allow 2.5–3 hrs; easily combined with a cider-house lunch after.
