Glide by rowboat through the ethereal turquoise waters of Melissani Cave, where a collapsed roof floods the grotto with shafts of midday sunlight. One of Greece's most otherworldly natural wonders, just minutes from Sami port.
What to expect
A local oarsman rows you silently across two chambers: one open to the sky, one cathedral-dark. The reflected light shifts from sapphire to jade as you move. The cave's mythology — sacred to the god Pan — adds depth to every glance. Capacity is managed, so an early-morning or late-morning visit keeps crowds thin.
Good to know
Melissani is only 3 km from Sami port — a 5-minute taxi ride. Book a private taxi from the port for ~EUR 10 each way so you control timing. All-aboard is typically early evening; even a 2-hour window is ample. Pre-purchasing entry online is not currently available — pay at the kiosk on arrival.
