Sail from Sarande to the crystalline lagoon waters of Ksamil aboard a traditional wooden sailing vessel, anchoring above mussel beds for a hands-on harvesting experience followed by the freshest seafood feast afloat — mussels, grilled catch, local wine, and cold Albanian beer under the Ionian sun.
What to expect
You board a traditional wooden sailing boat in Sarande harbour and cruise south to the shallow, jewel-bright lagoon around the Ksamil islands, where Albania's best mussels are farmed in the clean Ionian waters. The crew pulls the lines, you get involved in the harvest, and within minutes a generous feast is laid out — mussels steamed with garlic and local herbs, grilled fish, Albanian salad, fresh bread, and cold local wine or beer. Swimming stops in the extraordinary clarity of Ksamil's water follow lunch. The whole experience is unhurried, sociable, and utterly delicious.
Good to know
Ksamil is approx. 15–20 min south of Sarande — the boat typically departs from the main harbour. Check the duration (usually 4–5 hours) against your all-aboard time. Spaces on authentic mussel tours are genuinely limited — pre-book well in advance, particularly in high season (July–August).
