Descend into the world's largest lava-tube system — a 7.4 km basalt corridor sculpted 300,000 years ago — to marvel at a 7.6 m lava column, the planet's tallest. Eerie, magnificent, and wholly unlike any cave on Earth.
What to expect
The cave maintains a constant 11–21 °C with high humidity, creating a cathedral-like chill the moment you descend. Dramatic uplighting reveals lava-flow marks on the walls, rainbow-mineral streaks, and the iconic lava column pedestal. The silence is profound. Your guide points out rare cave pearls and explains how the tube formed in a single continuous lava flow. Exit into lush subtropical forest for a sensory contrast.
Good to know
Located in Gujwa-eup, ~30 km northeast of Jeju City — around 40 min by private car. Wear non-slip shoes and a light jacket; the cave is slippery. Photography is permitted. Combined well with Seongsan Ilchulbong for a full UNESCO East Jeju day. Allow 3–4 hours including transfer and exploration.
